Research Assistant/Associate (Fixed Term)

The Department of Psychiatry is looking for a committed and enthusiastic Research Assistant / Research Associate to join Professor Paul Fletcher's research group in April 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter on a fixed term 8 month contract.

The successful applicant will be a key part of a study aimed at studying the interoceptive and psychological contributions to eating (SPICE study).

The role will be to help with data analysis and lead the recruitment and testing of a small set of patients who have undergone gastric surgery. We are looking for an applicant with a strong track record in data analysis, including, preferably, functional neuroimaging (fMRI) and experience running studies with human participants.

Candidates will have a background in psychology, neuroscience, or related disciplines, experience with behavioural testing and/or MRI and a proven ability to solve routine problems with research studies. Advanced skills in at least one statistical software package (e.g. R, Matlab, SPSS) is highly desirable. We are looking for someone either with a PhD or Master's and candidate selection will be based on experience in the relevant domains.

The work is supported by a Wellcome Trust Award to the PI (Professor Paul Fletcher) and aims to use innovative cognitive measurements within a computationally-informed framework. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to play an active and leading part in the data analysis and to work in a newly-built unit optimised to acquire these measurements.

Informal enquiries are encouraged and may be directed to Prof. Paul Fletcher [email protected]

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 8 months in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a standard Disclosure and Barring Service check.
