Reception and Facilities Supervisor (Fixed Term)

The MRC Epidemiology Unit is seeking to appoint a Facilities and Reception Supervisor as part of its friendly Business Team.

We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic person to join our Business Team. Principal role responsibilities are management of our main site at the Institute of Metabolic Science (IMS) on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, liaison with the University of Cambridge and Addenbrooke's Hospital estates departments for our other sites on the campus. The role holder will also provide advice and assistance for the facilities management of our other three sites in Cambridgeshire.

At the IMS this involves ensuring provision of satisfactory infrastructure services for our staff and visitors including building maintenance and security access, cleaning, hospitality and meeting room provision as well as dealing with day to day issues as they arise, and liaising with our different facilities providers.

The role also manages the Reception Desk at the IMS which meets and greets the many volunteers for our studies and deals with incoming telephone calls, courier packages and taxi bookings.

Further responsibilities are supporting the Health and Safety Co-ordinator to ensure the department meets required standards.

The post holder will manage three Administrative Assistants who undertake reception duties, and any other members of staff that may be recruited to support Facilities and Reception.

This is a busy and reactive role. You will have excellent inter-personal skills, terrific organisational skills and experience of problem solving and people management. You will also have some experience of health and safety practices.

Alongside a competitive salary, University staff are eligible for a comprehensive package of benefits and services include discounts on shopping, health care, financial services and public transport. We also offer defined benefits pension schemes and tax-efficient bicycle, car lease and charity- giving schemes.

The MRC Epidemiology Unit is a department within the University of Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine and is situated within the Institute of Metabolic Science on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Its mission is to study the genetic, developmental and environmental factors that cause obesity, diabetes and related metabolic disorders and develop strategies for their prevention. The Unit benefits from a number of large-scale, cross programme epidemiological studies with detailed datasets allowing a wide range of research from genetics to public health. Highly experienced information teams and other specialist teams support the scientists in the delivery of their research aims.

The appointment will be made on a fixed-term basis for 12 months. Please contact the recruiting manager, Annabel Curd, via email at [email protected] for informal enquiries.
