The MSS Rainbow Initiatives Manager engages in community building, education, and program support for Multicultural Student Services and the Rainbow Initiatives programs. Students in this position will assist in staffing the multicultural center, affinity program development, marketing, newsletter development and community engagement among students with minoritized identities. The students in this position would have Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to working with communities of color across multiple intersecting dimensions of difference such as Queer & Trans People of Color, students with disabilities, Multiethnic/Multiracial, etc.
Duties:Act as a representative of MSS including building relationships with community partners, student organizations, serving on campus committees, and tabling at events.Essential
Assist in daily operations of the MCC including staffing the front desk, keeping and managing attendance records, maintaining an organized office space.Essential
Assist in making marketing materials, posters, flyers, half sheets.Essential
Assist in student engagement and outreach, including leading focused outreach to identity and culturally-based student organizations.Essential
Assist in the making and release of biweekly newsletter, gathering and creating content, compiling it in programs such as canva and marketing cloud.Essential
Assist in the planning and implementation of signature programs and events, including but not limited to Rainbow Connect, Rainbow Drop ins, Lavender Graduation.Essential
Attend regular staff meetings and scheduled trainings.Essential
Collaborate with the Multicultural Student Services staff and community partners to develop student-centered programs that foster a sense of community and belonging.Essential
Create training and presentations for neighboring departments and fellow studentsEssential
Engage in learning on identity development, dialogue facilitation, and social justice, including staying current on issues impacting communities, educating about and interrupting bias or microaggressions, and raising awareness for underserved parts of the community.Essential

Required Education or Training:
To be eligible for student employment in Student Engagement and Inclusion, an applicant must: a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee. d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer. e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.
Salary Information:
This is a student position, up to 15 hours per week at $12.03/hour.
