  • Position Summary:

    Prince William Sound College is seeking applicants for adjunct faculty positions for Millwright and other career and technical courses. PWSC is part of the University of Alaska Anchorage which is independently accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).

    Duties:

    100Develop and instruct each course as assigned, using the approved Course Content Guide's student learning outcomes, and to the specifications of contract terms and dates. Utilize didactic, engaging, and innovative teaching methods to deliver up-to-date content within the scope of the course. Practice adaptable instruction methods and interpersonal skills to reach students from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures in manners that best promote student success, engagement, and critical thinking -- incorporating collaboration and the exchange of ideas whenever appropriate and possible within the course. Utilize current technology to effectively engage students and enhance the teaching and learning experience. Meet the minimal contact hours for course instruction and comply with the published course schedule and the academic calendar of the college. Maintain evidence of students meeting the course's intended student learning outcomes with examples of assignments and records of student performance; work with the other faculty to compile the annual program report by contributing this and other course-level assessment data. Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA), department lead/mentor faculty, and administrators of PWSC extension centers and high schools as needed for dual credit or extension site assignments. Submit a formal syllabus for each course to the Office of Academic Affairs prior to the start of the instruction period, using the general syllabus template with required content. Submit grades by the posted deadline in the academic calendar of the assigned semester. Adjunct instructors are expected to be highly responsive to students in correspondence, to utilize and check their UA email account for PWSC-related business, and to maintain published/posted office hours (whether delivered from an office on campus or availability for Skype sessions with distance students, etc). At least once at mid-term and additionally as needed, refer at-risk or failing students to Student Services for support and intervention to assist students in becoming more successful in the course, or in dropping/withdrawing. Address conduct problems, especially academic dishonesty, using formal college policies. Manage the learning environment to promote and protect the integrity, credibility, and quality of both the course(s) taught and of Instruction at PWSC as a whole.Essential

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of higher education instruction methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Public speaking skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Preferred Experience & Education:

    Bachelor's degree/Master's degree in field related to the position, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

    Required Experience & Education:

    Five years of related work experience and industry certification as appropriate is required.

    Salary Information:

    This is a part-time adjunct faculty position. Salary is based on experience as well as the number of previous semesters teaching experience within the University of Alaska.

    Need for adjunct instructors is determined on a per-semester basis. Successful acceptance into the adjunct pool does not guarantee an offer of a contract, though qualified applicants will be held in the pool for multiple semesters in the chance that a need for instructors in their discipline may arise. This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
