As Public Engagement & Events Coordinator you will play a crucial role in the Wellcome-funded project ‘Child sexual abuse and recovery: historicising survivor and practitioner experiences (c1950-2022)', working closely with a dedicated academic team and collaborating with survivor and practitioner organisations.

Co-produced with survivor and practitioner partners, the project will prioritise survivor experiences and offer a challenge to medical and psychiatric expertise on what makes a ‘good recovery' or supports individuals to live with the aftermaths.

As Public Engagement and Events Co-ordinator, you will:

  • Organise and manage public conferences, symposia, seminars, and workshops
  • Plan and deliver events using face-to-face, digital, and blended methods
  • Prepare and promote publicity material for events
  • Liaise with external organisations and manage specialist external agencies
  • Monitor and evaluate engagement programme activities
  • Act as the main point of contact for enquiries from general public, external organisations, academics and students
  • Maintain and manage the project's website, share learning and news via social media feeds.
  • We are looking for a Public Engagement and Events Co-ordinator who has:

  • Working knowledge of promoting engagement and events through various techniques
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ethical awareness and ability to handle sensitive matters
  • Proficiency in IT packages including Microsoft Office, social media, and website applications
  • Experience in building and maintaining relationships with diverse groups
  • General and financial administration experience, including budget monitoring.
  • We particularly welcome applications from candidates with lived experience of childhood abuse or those who have provided services to survivors.

We also encourage Black and minority ethnic candidates as they are under- represented within Birkbeck at this level.

If this sounds like the role for you, please apply with us today.
