  • About the Portfolio

    The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated, enterprise-wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences. The Portfolio incorporates the following business units: Enterprise Projects & Business Performance, Human Resources, Information and Technology Services, Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Procurement and Property Services Group (PSG).

    The Portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups. The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT strategy to life, across the globe. Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities.

    Property Services Group has approximately 125 staff and has the responsibility to operate, maintain and enhance the buildings owned and leased by RMIT University, oversee construction projects and ensure the provision of physical facilities services.

    The Group has an operating budget in excess of $70M and prospective capital projects of over $100M per annum for the next few years in Melbourne and Vietnam. RMIT's built environment involves approximately 109 buildings in Melbourne spread across all of RMIT's campuses and sites.

    About the Role

    The position of Property Business Partner works with designated stakeholder group/s as the primary point of contact for the provision of all planning and/or project-related property services matters for facilitating accommodation outcomes. The role will work largely autonomously to support the Senior Manager, Campus Planning to develop Property initiatives with a particular focus on strategic project initiation and optimal portfolio management for designated university stakeholder/s; and managing client and other stakeholder relationships across multiple levels.

    The Property Business Partner will proactively identify and analyse client needs and develop or source solutions to deliver on business objectives by driving outcomes for stakeholders by coordinating necessary activities across multiple Property Services teams and keep stakeholders informed of progress. The position leads the strategic assessment and planning components of projects including concept planning, options development, feasibility assessment and brief delivery.

    The position will engage with the stakeholder leadership team to learn of business activities and priorities which will require Property assistance; advise and educate business managers about Property Services engagement and use of services.

    To be successful in this position, you'll have, as a minimum:

  • Plan and manage the property portfolio spatial allocations for designated university stakeholder groups and, in conjunction with the Property Business Partners team, recommend and embed consistent strategic space planning and management practices across the university.

  • Plan and deliver the project briefing requirements for multiple capital projects, including managing internal client and other stakeholder relationships, collaboratively lead project teams for the briefing phase and oversee various streams of project activity, ranging from complex consultation processes, formal investigation of property matters, the University's evolving masterplan, built form limitations, design objectives and property & utilisation data analysis.

  • Promote best practice discussions with stakeholders in the development and application of frameworks for optimising the utilisation of space, ensuring that space allocations advance optimal ways of using the university's property portfolio.

  • Actively contribute to broader property development and/or redevelopment activities, including by contributing to the identification, assessment and briefing of property requirements to enable the allocation or pursuit of capital funding opportunities – for planned and unplanned capital project initiatives.

  • Use understanding of organisational and broader system environment to build strong relationships with key university clients, external partners and internal stakeholders, with a view to fostering Property's role as a trusted advisor in the planning and development of capital initiatives across the university.

  • Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement and advisory role within a large complex organisation with a demonstrated ability to understand issues at both a broad strategic level and at a detailed operational level.

  • Extensive project initiation experience in complex organisations, including the ability to translate strategy into tangible projects and lead the planning, options development, feasibility assessment and project brief development for significant Property initiatives.

  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead and influence others, including a proven capacity to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
