    Position Summary:

    The Office Sustainability Institute is seeking candidates for Research and Project Specialist role.The Sustainability Institute at the College of New Jersey seeks a creative and motivated person to join our team working on a portfolio of emerging energy and sustainable development issues. Candidates should be able to work effectively in a fast-paced and creative team environment and also complete policy research projects with minimal supervision.

    Main Responsibilities:

  • Respond to inquiries from program participants such as municipal and school staff and green team members; work with stakeholder groups to identify issues and case studies.
  • Conduct research on policies and best practices; write reports with analysis and recommendations.
  • Assess projects and documentation of municipal and school program participants.
  • Provide technical assistance to municipalities and schools to assist them in completing Sustainable Jersey actions.
  • Assist with outreach activity, workshops, and presentations.
  • Assist Program Manager with gathering internal data for periodic grant reporting and other data needs.
  • Required Qualifications:

  • Two to five years of experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as public policy, urban planning, engineering, public or business administration.
  • Associate's degree in a related field plus a minimum of three to five years of full-time work experience in a relevant field.
  • Master's degree in policy-related field preferred.
  • Experience working with local governments or community organizations on sustainability issues preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work well in a fast-paced team environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate complex policy issues for non-specialist audiences in presentations and reports.
  • Ability to conduct public policy research and synthesize findings for non- specialist audiences in presentations and written reports.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to organize meetings, maintain diverse contact networks, and manage multiple priorities on schedule within deadline.
