The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences is seeking a Senior Administrator , based in the School of Chemistry to support the Physical Sciences Data Infrastructure (PSDI– www. project and as part of the wider Faculty Operating Service. Successful applicants will be experienced, motivated, enthusiastic, and proactive, whilst culturally sensitive and are able to work effectively in a flexible and collaborative environment.

The Physical Science Data Infrastructure (PSDI) initiative is an EPSRC funded large scale infrastructure project between the University of Southampton and the Science and Technologies Facilities Council (STFC). PSDI aims to enable researchers in physical sciences to discover, capture, manage and share SC1 SC2 research data more easily by connecting and enhancing the different data infrastructures they use. Through PSDI researchers will be able to:

  • Find and Access reference quality data from commercial and open sources
  • Combine data from different sources
  • Share data, software and models including experimental and simulation data
  • Deploy close-to-data computation and containerisation of data and software
  • Use AI to explore data
  • Make the results of their research open and FAIR
  • As a senior member of our busy administrative team based in Chemistry, you will provide high level support to the team to deliver professional and efficient services including operational assistance and administrative support to the academic community, event organisation, financial administration, organising and minuting meetings, and ordering resources. You will be a key facilitator of relationships with project partners and collaborators across academia and industry. To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have the ability to build effective and credible working relationships and liaise confidently with senior colleagues.
  • Be adaptable, flexible, proactive and a collaborative team leader, with strong interpersonal skills and a positive and enthusiastic approach.
  • Have excellent line management and organisational skills and the ability to effectively manage workload across a team to meet business requirements.
  • Manage complex processes, analyse and interpret business information and support local governance committees.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and well as up-to-date MS Office skills.
