The RCSI Physician Associate programme is a post-graduate MSc course that
prepares students to function as a highly trained health professional
delivering patient-centred care within the multi-disciplinary team. The
programme remains the only one of its kind in the Republic of Ireland and has
distinguished itself as a leader in PA education, research, and advocacy for
the role across all sectors of the healthcare industry. Graduates function in
all medical and surgical specialties and are highly sought after by employers.
The five year plan for the programme includes growing the profession and
advancing the regulatory framework for clinical practice.
Objective of the role:
This full time post will assist in the development and implementation of the
Physician Associate Programme in conjunction with the Director and his/her
staff.
Specifically the duties of the post will include:
Providing a confidential, effective and efficient administrative support
service for the Physician Associate Programme;
Responsibility for the overall smooth running of the office on a day to
day basis;
Convening meetings of the working groups and sub-committees as may be
established or amended from time to time;
Ensuring dissemination of information and implementation of policy and
decisions arising from these committees;
Developing and maintaining a registry of PAs in Ireland.
Managing programme student examination results and ensuring exam marks are
appropriately recorded.
Preparing materials and facilitating examination boards for programme
students
Managing and developing systems and processes to support the programme in:
Monitoring expenditure and budgets, Delivering strategic objectives and
meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Generating reports for
committees/groups, as required;
Collaborating with key personnel across RCSI and the teaching
hospital(s) to ensure tasks assigned are delivered;
Interacting with all stakeholders in a friendly and efficient manner;
Organising events for the Physician Associate Programme as required;
Providing support to the Physician Associates in their teaching role;
Updating the Physician Associate website and materials, in consultation
with relevant stakeholder;
Liaising with all RCSI support and service departments regarding the
Physician Associate Programme as and when required;
Maintaining good working relationships with RCSI colleagues both at home
and abroad;
Liaising with relevant outside bodies, including the Department of Health,
Irish Medical Council, HSE etc.;
Assisting in the continuous improvement and development of the Physician
Associate Programme;
Keeping up-to-date on relevant legislation and RCSI policy developments.
Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required from
time to time.
Representing the best interests of RCSI at all times
Undertaking other duties as may be required by the Director or nominee
May be required to travel to different RCSI locations.
Person Specification:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral);
Excellent organisational and time management skills;
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint,
previous experience with administrative and learning platforms such as
Quercus and Moodle would be desireable
Strong project management skills
Experience in providing structured secretariat support to key school of
medicine meetings;
Team Player - works collaboratively with others to maximise individual and
team effectiveness in order to achieve required service levels;
Self-directed - ability to work on own initiative;
Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality;
Flexibility regarding working hours;
Adaptable to a busy and changing environment;
Strong ability to plan, to prioritise, to work accurately with attention
to detail and to meet deadlines and manage a complex and changing workload
Driven and ambitious to deliver results;
Knowledge of an academic or health related environment would be
advantageous.
