Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The UNCG Department of Biology endeavors towards excellence in conducting research and teaching biological concepts and skills to biology majors and graduate students, to prepare them for professional careers and more advanced study. We introduce non-biology majors to the foundations and applications of biology. By involving undergraduate and graduate students in research, we contribute to and increase society's knowledge across the broad spectrum of biology. We train doctoral students in Environmental Health Science, a complex and rapidly changing discipline. Through laboratory training and directed research experiences, we enhance our students' technical and analytical skills so that they can contribute meaningfully to an increasingly technological world. Position Summary
The North Carolina Mountain to Sea LSAMP seeks a Program Manager to work on a multi-institutional NSF-funded project focusing on student stipends, supplemental instruction, and program activities for underrepresented minority undergraduate students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math disciplines. The project involves five UNC System Institutions, UNCG, UNCW, ECU, AppState, and WCU, who will recruit students, offer stipends and coordinate activities to retain students in STEM that graduate in a timely manner and pursue graduate or professional education.
This is a full-time paid position for up to 5 years, contingent on continued grant funding to the Alliance and the individual's performance will start in February 2023.
The Program Manager will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day management of the project, gathering reportable data from the participating institutions, and summarizing, analyzing, and preparing reports for the institutions and NSF. The Program Manager will also coordinate the delivery of supplemental instruction for introductory STEM courses at UNCG, including recruiting and overseeing student peer leaders. The Program Manager will be expected to develop a deep knowledge of the program's mission and goals and work with the participating institutions to meet those goals. The Program Manager will coordinate meetings and conferences for the participating institution's advisory boards, the project evaluator, institutional PIs (including Provosts and Chancellors as appropriate), and program-supported student scholars. The Program Manager will work with the participating institutions to coordinate data collection and reporting, recruitment of students, and program activities among the institutions, and work directly with the participating students at the direction of the co-PIs. A high level of independence, a strong work ethic, and excellent interpersonal skills are required. Experience working with human subject data and institutional IRB boards is desired. Experience with supplemental instruction in STEM fields is also desired. Occasional travel to and from participating institutions is required.

Coordinate and gather data from participating institutions. Use best practices to reach mutually agreeable outcomes in resolution of issues. Problem solve and determine and document courses of action to address complex, ambiguous, or unique operational and/or program issues. Serve as a point contact for all matter relating to the program. Draft annual and final reports for review by PIs and coPIs. Organize meetings and conferences for all program activities.

Supervising recruitment, enrollment, participation, retention, and graduation. Develop and monitor institutional project databases, schedules, and reports. Meet quarterly with a representative from Contracts and Grants and the College of Arts and Sciences post-award grant administrator to receive updated information on the budget and share this with the PIs and co-PIs. Develop and monitor a system to ensure each partner is meeting timelines for project milestones and objectives and report to the PIs and coPIs, partnering university managers, and the Evaluator.
