Description

Department/Unit: Faculty of Law Closing Date: February 29, 2024

The Faculty of Law (CUHK LAW) is one of the most dynamic and successful law schools in Asia. Since admitting its first cohort of students in 2006, CUHK LAW has grown significantly in scale and reputation. In 2023-24, over 1,400 students are enrolled in CUHK LAW programmes (LLB, LLM, JD, PCLL and MPhil / PhD). CUHK LAW has a strong international outlook with nearly twenty jurisdictions (by origin or training) reflected in its academic staff. CUHK LAW is committed to fostering diversity and we encourage applications from candidates whose background and experience will enhance the diversity of our faculty. Further information about CUHK LAW is available at https:// www. cuhk.edu.hk/law.

CUHK LAW now invites applications for appointment(s) as Professional Consultant. Professional Consultants focus on teaching courses on the PCLL programme, as well as teaching core common law subjects on the LLB, JD and LLM programmes.

Applicants should have (i) a good law degree from a recognized university and/or a relevant professional qualification for legal practice; (ii) a minimum of two years' post-qualification experience as a solicitor or barrister in Hong Kong, or equivalent in another common law jurisdiction; and (iii) experience in teaching law or be able to demonstrate aptitude for teaching law. Preference will be given to applicants offering teaching expertise in Property Law and Land Law (incl. Conveyancing), Equity and Trusts, Criminal Law, Criminal and Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Hong Kong Legal System, Company and Commercial Law, and Insurance Law.

We have a record of high-quality teaching. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate their teaching capacity during the recruitment process.

Appointee(s) will undertake such duties as assigned by the Faculty Dean. These will include: (a) teaching at the CUHK Graduate Law Centre in Central and the CUHK Shatin campus; (b) contributing to academic curriculum development such as developing course materials including lecture and tutorial materials and assessment papers as well as programme administration; (c) serving as student academic advisor(s); and (d) undertaking administrative duties and service to the CUHK LAW, College and/or University as assigned.

Appointment(s) will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years, renewable subject to mutual agreement and satisfactory performance.

Applicants who would like to discuss the openings informally are invited to contact the Faculty Dean at [email protected].

Applicants should complete the online application form and upload a full curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching, copies of qualification documents, and contact details of three referees who have agreed to provide references.
