£155,352 (national pay award pending) plus sector benefits

Full Time, Permanent - Senior Staff

Oxford Brookes University is seeking to appoint a Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) to lead the next phase of its development in research, innovation and knowledge exchange. Oxford Brookes is a distinctive university: ambitious, applied, inclusive and deeply connected to its students, staff, partners and region. It combines academic strength with a strong professional and practical orientation and has a proud history of widening opportunity and contributing to the economic, social and cultural life of Oxfordshire and beyond. Its research reflects that purpose, with 70% assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent in REF 2021. The University is now entering an important new phase. Following the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor in 2025, Brookes has developed its Roadmap to 2030, building on the vision, mission and guiding principles of Strategy 2035. Its newly agreed research strategy sets the direction for strengthening research quality, income and impact. The appointment of a Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation is central to delivering that ambition, making choices about priorities and investment and preparing the University for REF 2029 and beyond. Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and working as part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will provide strategic leadership across research, innovation and knowledge exchange. You will work closely with the academic community and professional services to develop research strengths, support collaboration across disciplines and increase opportunities for external funding and commercialisation. You will also oversee the Graduate School and support the development of research staff and students, working with the Director of Research, Innovation and Enterprise to ensure that researchers have the support they need to succeed. We are looking for a senior academic leader with a strong personal record of research, funding and impact, alongside experience of improving research performance and delivering successful REF submissions. You will understand how to build an effective institutional research strategy and translate it into decisions and progress across a diverse academic community. You will bring sound judgement, a collaborative approach and the confidence to take difficult decisions while maintaining the trust and respect of colleagues. Externally, you will be an authoritative advocate for Brookes, strengthening relationships with funders, business and other partners and extending the University’s national and international research profile. For the right person, this is an opportunity to shape the next phase of research and innovation at Oxford Brookes, building on established strengths and making the most of its place within one of the world’s leading research and innovation regions. We are committed to recruiting from the widest possible pool and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates who embrace our values, regardless of their background.
