Job description

Since our establishment as Napier Technical College in 1964, Edinburgh Napier has evolved into a bold, progressive university with a reputation and impact that stretches far beyond our shores. External recognition sees us ranked highly as a progressive modern university, and our excellent results from the Research Excellence Framework (2021) are testament to our growing research strength and capability. These results, alongside our consistently positive National Student Survey, sustained high levels of graduate employment, our research commercialisation success and international reach demonstrate the increasing impact of the University's collective work, quality and commitment. While we've risen in rankings and grown in scope and academic reputation over the years, we have stayed true to our heritage, preparing graduates effectively for a range of careers and advancing knowledge that has a positive impact on people's lives. These successes are supported by an outstanding community of staff and students, and a strong financial position.

Our current Principal & Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andrea Nolan, will stand down at the end of 2024, after more than eleven highly successful years in post. We seek an exceptional leader who has the passion, energy and drive to build on our achievements and to enhance our position at a time of significant change and challenge in higher education in the UK and around the world.

An inclusive engaging leader, you will have the track record of outstanding achievement and requisite experience to operate credibly within an academic environment, and to develop trusted relationships throughout the Edinburgh Napier community. You will have a proven track record of visible leadership in an organisation of comparable scale and complexity, together with excellent communication skills, high levels of financial acumen and clarity of vision. Values-driven and with good interpersonal skills, you will inspire and engage our staff and students, and extend our reach, impact and reputation.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and enhance Edinburgh Napier's growing academic and institutional reputation, as we continue to develop the University as a high-impact professional and entrepreneurial institution and first choice destination for home and international students alike. If you have the right experience, skills and track record of success and share our passion and ambition, we would be delighted to hear from you.

We truly believe in the power of diversity and understand that different viewpoints are important to achieving goals, that's why we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences.
