  • Position Summary:

    The Aviation Technology Division Simulations Center is seeking qualified applicants for the Preceptor Adjunct: Simulations Trainer labor pool.

    Duties:

    The Preceptor Adjunct: Simulations Trainer Labor Pool is a departmentally administered labor pool serving the purposes of the UAA Aviation Technology Division (ATD) Simulations Unit. All Preceptor Adjunct: Simulations Trainer hires will be managed from this pool of applicants.

    A Preceptor Adjunct: Simulations Trainer (PAST) is responsible for providing introductory, non-recorded demonstration flights to beginning and intermediate students exclusively using UAA Flight Training Devices (FTDs) and simulators. A PAST must be able to communicate effectively using the English language and possess appropriate knowledge of aviation, flight procedures, technical flying skills (simulated) and general aircraft systems. A PAST is NOT required to maintain a current FAA medical certificate nor operate actual aircraft as part of their duties.

    Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

    a) Conduct introductory demonstration flights for UAA students enrolled in Private Pilot Ground School and/or Instrument Ground School using FTD/simulations equipment.

    b) Maintain student training records as required by the ATD.

    c) Maintain a safe training environment acceptable to the ATD.

    d) Supervise student FTD operations to ensure safety and compliance with UAA and ATD policies and procedures.

    e) Provide simulation demonstrations/trainings for external groups, as arranged by the Sim Center Coordinator and/or ATD Director.

    f) Assist the ATD Simulations Center unit with simulations operations for contracts with external user groups, as arranged by Sim Center Coordinator and/or ATD Director.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: All successful Preceptor Adjunct: Simulations Trainer candidates will meet the following criteria:

    a) Hold a current FAA Basic Ground Instructor certificate and any FAA pilot certificate with an instrument rating. b) Have the skills and abilities needed to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experience levels. c) Have the knowledge, skill, and ability to effectively evaluate a student's learning progress based upon established standards of performance relative to the student's experience and stage of development.

    Preferred Experience & Education:

    Although not required, experience using and instructing with varied flight simulators and training devices (FTDs) is strongly preferred.

    Associate or Bachelor's degree in an aviation-related or other technical field from an accredited post-secondary institution highly desirable.

    14 CFR Part 141 experience.

    Required Experience & Education:

    Successful candidate(s) must hold a current FAA Basic Ground Instructor certificate and any FAA pilot certificate with an instrument rating.

    Salary Information:

    This is a part-time, non-exempt, temporary faculty (adjunct) position. $23.03/hour.
