We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a vibrant research team to support the inaugural Cochlear Chair in Hearing and Health to grow and maintain their public health research program including epidemiological, prevention and translational-oriented research in hearing health of older adults.


  • Salary Package: from $81,581 to $109,852 (Level A), plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading. Pro-rata rates apply for part-time appointments.

  • Appointment type: Full-time, fixed-term position for 1 year with opportunity for extension.

  • Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

  • We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with a track record in public health research to join the Public Health and Policy Pillar of the Macquarie University Hearing Research Centre. We have a number of projects underway, and the successful candidate will be required to:

  • Provide a consistent level of contribution to the research activities of the Public Health and Policy Pillar, including a NHMRC funded project aiming to develop an Australian-first online support service for adults with hearing loss

  • Develop and refine research skills and independent research activities under the supervision of more senior academic staff.

  • Undertake administration primarily related to their activities at the University including preparing ethics applications

  • Development of surveys and other quantitative and qualitative data collection processes as relevant to the role

  • Stakeholder engagement (government and non-government organisations and consumer groups)

  • Preparation of results, visualisation and reporting of research to various audiences and dissemination via peer-reviewed journal articles

  • Development and participation in annual dissemination events

  • The development of analysis plans and management of study databases related to their activities.

You will bring your excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills to work closely with our relevant stakeholders, including healthcare policy makers, healthcare executives, clinicians, and consumers, to ensure our project aims are met.     The Public Health and Policy Pillar of the Macquarie University Hearing Research Centre has the broad primary goal of reducing the social, human and economic impact of adult-onset hearing loss (ARHL). The research within this Pillar includes analyses of data from population health datasets, epidemiological studies, and intervention studies.

    To be considered for this position applicants are asked to provide a cover letter addressing the selection criteria below and attach their curriculum vitae (including contact information for three referees) as part of the application process. Core criteria:

  • A PhD in epidemiology, health services research, quantitative and/or qualitative research methodology or a related area

  • Demonstrated expertise in the management of research projects and/or clinical trials, including ethics and governance applications, participant recruitment, survey development, logistics and management of datasets and reporting.

  • A good record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved national recognition and/or made worthwhile contributions to the field of clinical research, epidemiology, public health and/or translational research that can be applied to the field of sensory loss (vision and/or hearing loss) demonstrated by a record of quality publications, presentations at conferences and preferably success in securing external competitive and other funding.

  • A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive links locally and nationally with the discipline, profession, industry and wider community.

  • Ability to critically consider inequity in the context of health and social care

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective collaborations within a multidisciplinary team with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Desirable criteria:

  • Ability to critically consider inequity in the context of health and social care.

  • Expertise in the statistical analysis of longitudinal data or similar complex datasets, and exposure to translating evidence into practice.

  • This position requires you to have legal working rights in Australia.
