Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI)
Full-time, fixed term position until 31 March 2025
Base salary will be in the range $77,324.85 - $102,945.12 +17% Superannuation
Based at Hermitage Research Station in Warwick
Contribute as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop more climate resilient hybrid crops, funded by the Australian Research Council in partnership with GenTech and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
This project will use multi-disciplinary approaches to advance understanding of the reproductive steps which limit hybrid seed set under high temperatures and develop more resilient sorghum hybrid crops for both Australia and globally.
There will also be an opportunity for the successful candidate to publish and supervise students.
Key responsibilities will include:
Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.
Teaching: Engage in undergraduate teaching opportunities or teach at least one undergraduate subject annually while and participate in events to attract postgraduate students.

About YouPossess (or be in the process of obtaining) a PhD or equivalent in plant genetics or plant reproductive biology.
Demonstrated experience in plant genetics or breeding, particularly in cereals, including field-based genetic research
Demonstrated capacity to manage and analyse large data sets.
Track record of publication of research findings in peer reviewed journals and conferences.
Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in organising tasks, working effectively in multi- disciplinary teams or individually and meeting deadlines.
Good interpersonal skills, including the initiative, drive and flexibility to achieve results.
Evidence of, or an ability to commence establishing effective relationships to represent and promote the research area at a University and wider community level, including industry, government and professional bodies.
Demonstrated ability to conduct research independently and collaboratively.
High levels of personal integrity, transparency and capability.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre- employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, AHPRA registration, mandatory immunisations, first aid and/or CPR certification, blue card check, etc.
