  • About This Opportunity

    This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to focus their efforts on developing their expertise and emerging research profile in their discipline. At this level, it is expected that the incumbent will contribute to service and engagement roles and activities.

    The Researcher will contribute to innovative research developments within the scope of the NHMRC ideas project (Portable Electromagnetic Torso Scanner). This project aims to develop a portable scanner operating at microwave frequencies for early-stage diagnosis of liver steatosis, fibrosis, and inflammation, and to monitor the efficacy of lifestyle and medical interventions.

    Key responsibilities will include:

  • Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.

  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

    About You

    Essential

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in Electrical Engineering.

  • An emerging profile in research in the discipline area.

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge in antenna design for medical applications.

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge in applied electromagnetics.

  • Experience in conducting research projects, with demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills

  • Evidence of publication of research findings in top international peer- reviewed journals relevant to the scope of the project.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team

  • Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.

  • Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience with various microwave devices for biomedical applications

  • Expert knowledge in antenna modelling and optimization techniques

  • Experience in prototyping and testing a variety of antennas

  • Experience in antenna measurement in near/far-field regime

  • Broad knowledge of industry solutions and tools in electromagnetics for medical and healthcare applications
