About the Role
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Astrostatistics to join the new Macquarie Astrostatistics Research Group. You will be working with A/Prof Benjamin Pope on a full-time, fixed term period for 2 years.
This role will help establish a research programme in statistical, data- science, and/or machine-learning approaches to stellar and exoplanetary physics, broadly interpreted.
We are particularly seeking applicants with experience in both statistics and physics or astronomy, especially with experience developing in Jax, PyTorch, and/or Julia; with probabilistic programming languages; and with high- dimensional optimization and inference in physics contexts.
Examples of projects in the Astrostatistics group include direct imaging of exoplanets with JWST; asteroseismology with TESS and LOFAR; instrumentation design for small space missions; and multiwavelength stellar activity studies with TESS, LOFAR, and precision RV surveys.

Essential criteria
A Doctorate in a relevant field such as astrophysics, statistics, or applied mathematics
Experience in both statistics and physics or astronomy, especially exoplanet science or stellar astrophysics
A demonstrated track record of publications
The ability to clearly express your ideas and communicate in a team
The ability to work independently on problems and motivate junior members of the team
