An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Prof David Hodson group within the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM) (https: // www. rdm.ox.ac.uk/people/david-hodson) on a prestigious UKRI Horizon Europe Guarantee Grant.
The successful applicant will assist in ongoing projects studying glucagon- like peptide-1 receptor (GLP1R) and gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP) receptor signaling using novel fluorescent probes and models. The project will focus on understanding where GLP1 and GIP receptors are localized, how they signal in complex tissue and how they contribute to cell heterogeneity. An important component of the studies will be to use advanced cell imaging, including confocal and super-resolution modalities such as d-STORM and STED. Projects will be complemented with human islets and pancreas sections where needed.
Although training will be given in a variety of techniques, the person appointed will be expected to work independently on most tasks or in collaboration with the support of colleagues. Methods will include mouse genetics, cloning, CRISPR genome-editing, advanced imaging (confocal, STORM, STED), spatial transcriptomics, chemical biology and primary cell culture.
The position would suit a cell biologist with experience of imaging. A background in diabetes, metabolism or neuroscience is desirable, but not essential, as support and training will be provided.
The position is full time and fixed term for 3 years in the first instance. The position will be based at OCDEM, Churchill Hospital, Oxford.
