Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Materials Chemistry

Department of Chemistry, Physical & Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QZ

About the role

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Materials Chemistry to work under the supervision of Professor Ludmilla Steier for a period of up to 36 months. The project is focused on the development of novel atomic layer deposition (ALD) processes towards thin film sulphide perovskite materials that have the potential to transform the fields of photocatalytic, photoelectrochemical, and PV-driven electrochemical small molecule conversions towards valuable fuels and chemicals. It is funded by the UKRI following a successful ERC Starting grant.

The aim is to develop a detailed understanding of the optical and photocatalytic properties of these novel ALD thin film sulphide perovskite materials which will guide the design of innovative photocatalytic surfaces, photocatalytic reactors, ALD process as well as catalytic process conditions.

About you

Applicants must hold a PhD in the area of semiconductor photochemistry or a related area (or be close to completion) prior to taking up your appointment. The research requires expertise in heat/mass transport and optical modelling of photocatalytic and/or photoelectrochemical systems on the material and reactor modelling levels which includes using and mastering simulation software packages such as COMSOL. Have expertise in testing catalysts in photo-, photoelectron-, or photo-driven electrochemistry reactors. Have profound knowledge of semiconductor physics and catalysis concepts applied in these systems.

You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small-scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.

The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, Physical & Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QZ and is available as soon as possible.

Application Process

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application. In your supporting statement ( no more than 5 pages ), please explain how you meet each of the selection criteria found in the job description.

Certificates, references and research papers should not be provided at this stage.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday, Friday, 26 April 2024, UK time. Interviews will as soon as possible thereafter.

The University of Oxford and The Department of Chemistry are Silver Athena SWAN holders. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
