BackgroundDr Alijeva and Prof Ahmed of The City Law School are conducting a research project that analyses the jurisprudence of the UN Human Rights Committee specifically in regard to cases concerning ethnic, religious, linguistic and other minorities, as well as the perspectives of the minority rights stakeholders on the uses and accessibility of the UN level human rights protection processes. This project is part of a dynamic and growing impactful research agenda.
ResponsibilitiesThe post is to support the lead researchers in successfully implementing the project activities that include: conducting a scoping review of the relevant literature spanning disciplines of law, political science, and postcolonial studies (peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and grey literature); development of a dataset of qualitative sources using NVivo software; assistance with organisation and implementation of an international hybrid workshop with a diverse range of participants.
Person SpecificationThe successful candidate will have a PhD degree (or be close to completion, in Law, Political Science or other relevant disciplines. The successful candidate will also have knowledge on international human rights law and minority rights protection and have experience in conducting qualitative research using qualitative data management software (ideally NVivo).
They will demonstrate research experience in understanding the roles of international organisations and human rights protection mechanisms, with a special application for protection of minorities, and will have knowledge of qualitative data coding processes. They will have the ability to synthesise and analyse large amounts of information quickly and communicate this effectively in writing.
Finally, they will have experience in organizing, implementing and reporting on large international hybrid events that engage with academic and non- academic stakeholders.
