Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Impact and Shock Mechanics

Begbroke Science Park

We are seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher to join the Dynamic Behaviour of Materials group at the Department of Engineering Science, Begbroke Science Park. The post is fixed-term to 31 March 2025.

You will be working as part of a team to develop multi-scale modelling tools for materials under high-strain-rate and impact loading. You will develop and enhance a crystal plasticity formulation within an explicit scheme to account for various strengthening and relaxation mechanisms including slip and twinning, hardening, thermal softening, and rate dependence, amongst others. As part of this role, you will work closely with other researchers to validate these formulations using experimental results obtained from high-rate and shock-compression experiments, helping to improve our overall predictive capability.

You should possess a PhD/DPhil or be near completion in a relevant subject area. You will have exceptional initiative and the ability to work independently at the highest level, including a demonstrated ability to complete projects and manage your own area of academic research.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Prof Daniel Eakins (email: [email protected])

For more information about working at the Department, see www. eng.ox.ac.uk/about/work-with-us/

Only online applications received before midday on 24th June 2024 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
