Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Electroactive Biomaterials for Cardiac Tissue Engineering

Department of Engineering Science, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Botnar Research Centre, Headington, Oxford

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant who will work with Professor Malavika Nair and the SMARTBio Team to develop prototype regenerative and therapeutic technologies for cardiac tissue engineering using extracellular matrix derived constructs, at the Department of Engineering Science, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Botnar Research Centre, Headington. The post is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and is fixed-term for up to 3 years.

You will be joining the team as part of the BIONIC Hearts EPSRC New Investigator Award granted to Prof. Nair, which aims to expand existing expertise on the development of electroactive biopolymers for regenerative and therapeutic applications. You will be tasked with designing, fabricating, and validating devices to aid the stimulation and maturation of cardiomyocytes in collaboration with Prof. Christopher Toepfer at the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine.

You should hold a relevant PhD/DPhil (or be near completion) in fields such as biomedical, electrical or materials engineering, together with relevant experience. You should also have sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes (i.e. experience with fabricating electronics and cell culture), as well as excellent communication skills.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Malavika Nair (email: [email protected]).
