About the role

Postdoc (f/m/d) Development of All-Perovskite Triple Junction Solar Cells

Postdoc (f/m/d) Development of All-Perovskite Triple Junction Solar Cells

Reference No.: SE 2026/14

Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) conducts research on energy materials and develops next-generation photovoltaic technologies from materials to devices. The Department of Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells develops metal-halide perovskite solar cells and has achieved several world records for perovskite-silicon and perovskite-CIGS tandem solar cells. Our current research focuses on advancing all-perovskite multi-junction solar cells by investigating material properties and charge-carrier dynamics, developing new device configurations, improving operational stability, and scaling up device areas. In this postdoctoral position, you will contribute to the development of perovskite-based triple-junction solar cells. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced scientist with expertise in perovskite solar cells to join our international and multidisciplinary team.

Your Tasks

  • Manufacturing high-efficiency perovskite-based triple cells
  • Characterising devices, analysing experimental losses, and simulating single and tandem solar cells
  • Processing individual steps in device fabrication
  • Coordinating development work and experiments in cooperation with HZB, other institutes, and industrial partners
  • Publishing scientific results and writing project proposals for the acquisition of new third-party funded projects

Your Profile

  • Completed doctoral degree in materials science, chemistry, physics, engineering or a related field
  • In-depth knowledge of semiconductor technology and the physics of solar cells
  • Hands-on experience in processing thin films and solar cells in the topic of perovskite technology
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm about solar cells with drive for efficiency and team spirit

Your Benefits

At Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, you benefit from state-of-the-art research infrastructure, an international and collaborative working environment, and a wide range of opportunities for your professional development:
  • The opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative materials and technological solutions for a climate-neutral future in cooperation with leading international researchers
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely
  • Career-enhancing networking opportunities, individual guidance, and support through our Graduate Center and Postdoc Office
  • 30 days of vacation per year and attractive remuneration according to the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund), plus company pension plan
  • Advisory services on family and career matters through our Office for Work & Life
  • Subsidy for the public transport “Deutschlandticket Job” and exclusive employee discounts
  • Relocation support from non-EU countries
  • German and English courses for all proficiency levels

Fixed term contract for 24 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
