The role
We are recruiting for a motivated PDRA to join the research group of Dr Nik Georgopoulos. The post is supported by funding which is part of the research agreement between Sheffield Hallam University and Paxman Ltd, the international leaders in scalp and limb cooling medical devices. These devices are designed to help cancer patients combat chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA) and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), two highly traumatic and/or debilitating side-effects of cancer chemotherapy.
The appointee must have extensive computational (and biological) skills, and they will work within a multi-disciplinary team of biologists, clinicians and health professionals as well as the Paxman team. They will assist in the launch of and support the infra-structure and operation of the Cancer-related Hair-loss International Leadership and Linkage (CHILL) registry. The registry will be a ‘live', international patient database of real-world efficacy of cryotherapy for chemotherapy-induced symptom management.
The team
You will be joining a multidisciplinary research environment within the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre (BMRC), a vibrant research centre. You will experience a welcoming and inclusive research group which comprises postdoctoral and postgraduate students. The BMRC is part of within the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences in the School of Biosciences and Chemistry.
Moreover, the BMRC staff work closely with the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC), a world-leading centre for physical activity research and innovation. The AWRC operates within the Health Research Institute (HRI), which brings together academics and professionals who deliver research, innovation and knowledge exchange in health and wellbeing, including support for cancer patients. Therefore, the PDRA will benefit from internationally recognised expertise in clinical and biological research that impacts the quality-of-life of cancer patients worldwide.
