Postdoctoral Researcher - ENEPORTS, 1 FTE, School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, 010344

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher within the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences / ChemLight group at the University of Galway.

The position is funded by the INTERREG Atlantic Area programme (Grant Agreement EAPA0016/2022) and is available immediately until 30th May 2026.

The Project:

Ports in the Atlantic Area are transforming towards digitalized green energy “laboratories”, preparing to supply clean electricity to ships and to their concessionaires (including blue/green energy manufacturers), and to facilitate testing and connection of renewable energy prototypes, taking advantage of local resources and proximity to sea. ENEPORTS partners have detected common challenges, and similar technical solutions and tools that can be applied in these green energy ecosystems. Hence, three demonstrative pilots are proposed in ENEPORTS to examine how digitalization and AI can contribute to manage the energy flows more efficiently. New decarbonization strategies using hydrogen and a multisource device will be studied and tested. ENEPORTS will address, for orderly deployment, administrative requirements and potential economic, social, and environmental impacts, and technological challenges of operating hybrid power systems with different variable energy sources and demands.

Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher salary scale €43,907 - €56,202 per annum, (subject to the project's funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts. The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the Salary Scale.

Closing date for receipt of applications is 17:00 (Irish Time) on 13th June 2024. It will not be possible to consider applications received after the closing date.
