Post Doctoral Researcher : THz driven electron streaking

Physics Location: Bailrigg, Lancaster, UK Salary: £32,296 to £36,924 (Full time, indefinite with end date) Closing Date: Sunday 27 October 2024 Interview Date: To be confirmed Reference: 1034-24

Post-doctoral Research Associate to develop systems for Laser-Driven Electron Streaking.

Lancaster Physics Department and the Cockcroft Institute for Accelerator Science wish to appoint a postdoctoral research associate to assist in the development, and early-stage commercialisation of laser- and THz-driven electron streaking systems.

You will provide experimental leadership in the design through to prototyping of optical and terahertz systems for few-hundred keV to 100's MeV electron streaking, building on the groups recent developments in sub-mm waveguide structures and in high-power THz sources.

You will have experience in experimental ultrafast lasers and optics, and possibly in one or more of terahertz time domain techniques, electron beam dynamics or laser driven particle acceleration. Training and expertise in areas other than the candidate's principal expertise will be available to support the post.

You will join a group of researchers from Lancaster Physics, Lancaster Engineering and Manchester Physics departments engaged in a wider programme of laser and terahertz driven particle acceleration. The group operates ultrafast laser laboratories at Lancaster and Manchester Universities, and a combined laser and electron beam laboratory at Daresbury National laboratory.

Opportunities for developing an aligned personal research activity will be available.

The post is initially for 30 months.

Further enquiries may be made to Professor Steven Jamison, [email protected].
