Post-Doctoral Researcher/ Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher, School of Science, Engineering, and Food Science, Chemistry
12 Months, fixed-term, whole-time post
Position summary
The “SOS Earth (Sustainable Organic Synthesis) using Earth Abundant Metals in Critical Pharmaceutical Processes” project is a large, collaborative, €1M Science Foundation Ireland-funded initiative, led by Dr Gerard McGlacken at University College Cork, Ireland.
Our group works closely with the large pharmaceutical industry in Ireland in the areas of catalysis and asymmetric synthesis.
Cork is a vibrant city and a great place to work and live!
The SOS Earth project is in collaboration with Prof Jason Lynam and Prof Ian Fairlamb at the University of York, UK.
Postdoctoral researchers could spend a significant amount of time at the University of York under the supervision of Prof Jason Lynam and Prof Ian Fairlamb, and/or at the University of Göttingen under the supervision of Prof Lutz Ackermann.
A placement within the Pharmaceutical Industry is also expected.
Importantly, you will form part of the large SSPC Centre which brings together most of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world (see here for context: McGlacken et al, Industry–Academia Partnership: The Synthesis and Solid-State Pharmaceutical Centre (SSPC) as a Collaborative Approach from Molecule to Medicine, Chem. Eur. J., 2018, 24, 499-503).
There is a real opportunity to spearhead a new project here, develop your own ideas and transition your career to academia or industry. Thus, highly ambitious and self-motivated colleagues are required.
