Position Summary
APC Microbiome Ireland (formerly Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre) was formed in 2003 with funding from Science Foundation Ireland and in conjunction with key industry partners, it represents a seamless collaboration between UCC, Teagasc Moorepark. It is widely recognised that the gut microbiota plays an important role in human health and has become one of the most dynamic, complex and exciting areas of research in both food and pharmaceutical arenas. Over the last decade APC Microbiome Ireland has established itself as one of the leading global centres in gut microbiota research. APC Microbiome Ireland has made several landmark discoveries and has published over 3500 research articles in peer-reviewed journals, generating many journals covers and associated editorials. APC Microbiome Ireland collaborates with over 20 industry partners and employs over 300 individuals, from the scientific PI's funded by the partner Institutions, the management team, and a dedicated group of research scientists, research assistants and postgraduate students.
We are currently recruiting a Post-Doctoral Researcher to work within the ERC Advanced project BACtheWINNER team. The main aim of this research programme is to develop bacteriocins as novel antimicrobials/therapeutics by solving the current challenges associated with their implementation, such as low production levels, resistance development, and inadequate potency/inhibition spectrum. This Post-Doctoral Researcher should be passionate about bacteriocin discovery and characterisation from a bioinformatic stand-point and have significant experience in similar research.
UCC is an accredited research organisation and as such can form hosting agreements with third country nationals (and non-EEA nationals) for the purpose of conducting research in the University.

Salary: €42,781 - €49,177 p.a. (IUA PD1 Salary Scale)
