Post Doctoral Research Associate in Advanced Electron Diffraction

The Rosalind Franklin Institute, Harwell Science and Innovation Campus

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the first applications of this unique detector for EM related applications. The project involves the development of applications of the next generation of event driven detectors for a range of EM experiments, including 4D STEM and electron micro diffraction. This new post is for a fixed term of up to 36 months, supported by Innovate UK as part of the Horizon Europe project IMPRESS.

With a background in advanced electron microscopy and / or detector physics and engineering you will be self-motivated, able to plan and deliver a complex research project involving multiple stakeholders. You will have a PhD in physics, engineering or a related field (or be close to completion), with an understanding of detectors for electron microscopy and advanced electron microscopy methods.

We wish to recruit an applications specialist to take responsibility for developing novel experimental methods using the Timepix 4 sensor developed by CERN, taking advantage of the high readout speed and unique data format. The role will utilise state of the art instrumentation located at the Rosalind Franklin Institute and the successful applicant will work alongside staff scientists at the RFI and development engineers at Quantum Detectors who are developing the readout electronics and control software for the sensor.

All applications must be made online using the Oxford University E-Recruitment system, no later than 12 noon on 25 February 2024. You will be required to upload a CV and a Supporting Statement as part of your application .

Please do not attach any manuscripts, papers, transcripts, mark sheets or certificates as these will not be considered as part of your application.

Interviews are scheduled to take place at the Rosalind Franklin Institute on 11 March 2024 and you must be available on this date in person.
