Job Description:

Wittenberg University is accepting applications for a part-time Police Officer position.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Using courtesy and tact to encourage voluntary obedience of laws, ordinances and other university district needs.
  • Building and maintaining community policing relationships with the Wittenberg community along with participating in student engagement activities.
  • Enforcing federal and state laws, city ordinances and all other pertinent university and local regulations with regard to the rights of the individual concerned.
  • Maintaining high visibility; responding immediately to university district police/security incidents. Duties are to be carried out with prudent regard for the reasonable safety of all persons, specifically including the officer.
  • Utilizing appropriate and lawful means to prevent or halt the commission of an offense and to prevent escape of, or to apprehend, a suspect or offender when it is reasonable to do so.
  • Operating and maintaining vehicles.
  • Maintaining proficiency through training and education.
  • Requirements:

    Requirements include:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Applicants for this position must have successfully completed Ohio peace officer basic training requirements and the peace officer certification examination
  • Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
  • A valid driver's license is required; must meet required insurance qualifications found in Wittenberg Motor Pool policies and procedures. If license is from out of state, successful candidate will need to obtain a valid Ohio driver's license within 30 days of hire date.
  • Applicants must be able to pass the following tests/screenings: drug screen, psychological fitness, and background records check.
  • Additional Information:

    This position has a beginning pay rate of $20.87 per hour with periodic step increases, topping out at $26.47 per hour.
