Lab aides work with a lab instructor to supervise and help students in an introductory physics lab section. They provide technical help using equipment and computers, answer questions related to the physics concepts of the labs, and guide students in the completion of the labs. Being a lab aide can provide invaluable experience in physics, lab skills, and teaching.
This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.
Required Qualifications
Individuals interested in applying to be a lab aide must have completed a Trig- or Calc-based physics course with a laboratory section, with a grade of B or better. Lab aides for first semester introductory courses must have completed a lab accompanying PHYS 2010/2210, and lab aides for second semester introductory course must have completed a lab accompanying PHYS 2020/2220. Lab aides may need to complete training sessions on a regular basis.
Applicants should have an interest in physics as well as in teaching others. A basic understanding of data collection, spreadsheets and computers skills is necessary. Good understanding of scientific and math concepts is necessary.
Must be a current student at Weber State University.
Preferred Qualifications
Physics experience preferred. Hiring preference will be given to those who have worked previously as Physics Department lab aides or those who are knowledgeable in the care, handling, and use of physics laboratory equipment.
