Background
Mercer's Medical Centre would like to employ a phlebotomist. Currently, the nursing staff are severely under pressure with Practice Nurse duties and it is difficult to facilitate the volume of patients requiring blood tests. To support the Practice Nursing we will hire a dedicated person to draw bloods. As bloods are drawn in the mornings, this would be a morning only, 5 days a week post.

• Communicate with all patients on their appointments and the process
• Take bloods following all compliance and safety procedures
• Triage blood samples going out and results coming in
• Systematically and securely track and store all details and records of patients screened
• Closely track, monitor, and follow-up on all specimens sent to the testing centres and follow-up and track all results received back. This is often with international testing centres
• Keep patients updated and informed as results are in process and received back – and in a sensitive manner
• Address any overdue or delay issues – always considering the impact on patients
• Gather data for research purposes
• Control and seek ways to optimise the end to end process – the specimen tracking scheduling, logistics, and results management
• Record keeping and maintenance of stocks and consumables
• Seek ways to grow the service and reach more potential service users
