  • Position Summary:

    Peer academic coaches are responsible for providing personalized interactions to assist students in successfully navigating the path to achieve their educational goals. Coaches also assist students at pivotal points in their academic career (academic warning/probation). Coaches support students in one-on-one and small group workshops and assist students with personalized plans regarding self-advocacy, time management, study skills, stress management, test taking strategies, organizational skills, and other academic success skills. Peer academic coaches work with students to identify and utilize campus resources and to develop short and long term goals. Coaches will work online and in-person with students based upon student need. Peer Academic Coaches are responsible for preparing individualized responses, exercises, and references to address student needs

    Duties:

    100● Provide individual and small group academic coaching to students by appointment and on a drop-in basis ● Establish and maintain a current appointment calendar according to SSC guidelines ● Assist in the facilitation of workshops regarding learning strategies ● Communicate with supervisor through weekly schedule/log of activities ● Document student sessions ● Promote campus resources offered at UAF and help students ● Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student information including academic progress and performance ● Support other first-year / student success initiatives as requested ● Actively participate in on-going training and staff development opportunities ● Ability to explain information in multiple ways ● Demonstrate professionalism, responsibility, punctuality, and academic integrity ● Create supplemental materials to be used in group coaching workshops and individual coaching sessions to aid in student learning and academic skill development ● Refer students to appropriate campus resources and services as neededEssential

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: -Ability to provide academic coaching in an organized manner and without close supervision -Demonstrated general knowledge in subject matter -Must be able to work with peers in a cordial and tactful manner -Good written and communication skills required -Dependable and task oriented -Strong study skills and successful student habits and behaviors -Self motivated, ability and willingness to take initiative -Desire to help other students learn and succeed -Ability to work with students with various learning styles and needs

    Required Experience & Education:

    -Currently enrolled part time or full time (6 credits) UAF student and in good academic standing -Applicants should have completed at least one semester at UAF -Familiarity with UAF systems and platforms including but not limited to UAF email, Blackboard, Canvas, and Nanook Navigator

    Salary Information:

    Starting rate of pay is $16.00 an hour.
