The Robot Experimentalist project will develop a prototype AI system able to intelligently and flexibly design experiments. Specifically, the Robot Experimentalist when given (1) a hypothesis, and (2) a set of laboratory equipment, outputs (3) a protocol to test the hypothesis using the equipment.
The Appointee will work on knowledge representation of laboratory equipment for bio-medical experiments and generation of experimental protocols. The Appointee will be primarily responsible for (a) developing ‘digital labs' for the laboratory robotic systems Eve, AIRC, and RIKEN (from project partners), and (b) integration of digital labs to the scientific discovery workflow.
The Appointee will work in close collaboration with the Robot Scientist Team in Cambridge. The Appointee will also work closely with: the project's Japanese collaborators AIRC (Artificial Intelligence Research Centre), RIKEN (Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research); the Genesis project in Chalmers University of Technology, and the UK industrial research collaborator Arctoris.
