Job Purpose

To provide in-depth support to the PPIE programme in the UK Mental Health Mission, Children and Young Peoples' (MHM CYP) theme, and provide advice on the creation, set up and best operation of key resources to aid the programme. In addition, the postholder will undertake a range of PPIE support activities in line with the UK MHM CYP theme strategy. To provide in-depth expertise of PPIE in the work with children, young people and families and to provide advice on the creation, set up and best operation of resources to aid the delivery of programme objectives. In addition, the postholder will undertake a range of PPIE support activities in line with the UK MHM CYP theme strategy.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide in-depth PPIE support to academic, professional and expert-by- experience service users/study participants within the UK MHM CYP theme work packages. Contribute to the overall smooth and efficient running of the programme to ensure an excellent experience for service users.

2. Provide in-depth PPIE knowledge, solutions, and advice to all of those involved with the programme to maximise the learning experience and/or contribute to the delivery of research and other objectives.

3. Develop, create and test new equipment, systems, procedures, protocols, models and/or techniques. Troubleshoot day-to-day problems and carry out appropriate maintenance as required.

4. Design, plan and organise PPIE and related activities to meet the needs of those involved with the programme within agreed timescales.

5. In liaison with relevant senior staff, to monitor standards, values and goals of the programme. Advise, implement and evaluate improvements to existing protocols as required.

6. Collect information, where relevant, using standard procedures and ensure that accurate records are kept updated accordingly. Present learning in an accessible way.

7. To advise, train and provide guidance to those involved with the programme in the best application and operation of PPIE resources.

8. Where relevant, supervise staff or expert-by-experience collaborators, including allocating work and monitoring progress and outputs.

9. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings/discussions and contribute to the wider programme and MHM CYP theme activities as required.

10. Keep up to date with advances in PPIE and coproduction and apply this knowledge to programme activities to further enhance the learning experience and/or contribute to the delivery of programme and MHM CYP theme aims.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 Advanced Higher / Scottish vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate or equivalent, and/or expertise through experience of personal development.

A2. Detailed knowledge and expertise of PPIE or related activities.

Expertise by experience of own mental health problems, social care or similar

Skills

Essential:

C1. Demonstrable in-depth skills relevant to PPIE. For example, experience of web design or handling and developing social media presence is desirable.

C2. Well-developed analytical and problem solving capability.

C3. Proven interpersonal and communication skills.

C4. Excellent teamworking skills.

C5. Ability to plan and prioritise workload to meet competing demands.

Experience

Essential:

E1. Significant relevant work or voluntary experience within a similar environment, including evidence of previous professional and/or personal development.

E2. Experience of understanding and interpreting the requirements of service users and others involved with the programme and implementing appropriate methods of achieving their needs.

E3. Experience of planning and organising own workload to meet the needs of the programme.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 5, £26,038 - £30,505 per annum.

This post is full time and has funding for up to 31 March 2025.

Please note, applications for a part-time position (0.8 FTE, 28 hours per week) will also be considered.
