Net Zero Strategy and Engagement Lead

Salary: Grade 8 (£45,585 - £54,395 p.a. depending on experience)

This role will be based on the university campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

Do you want to play a key role in delivering a net zero university? Do you have a proven ability to lead and manage others, as well as significant experience of working in sustainability engagement? Are you passionate about having a positive impact on society while effectively driving forward institutional change?

The University of Leeds is one of the top 75 universities in the world. We have a truly global community, with more than 39,000 students from 170 different countries and over 9,000 staff of 100 different nationalities. Established in 1904, we have a strong tradition of academic excellence, reflected in first-class student education, along with world-leading research that has a real impact around the globe.

Sustainability is at the core of the University of Leeds, with our economic, social, environmental, and cultural responsibilities a priority alongside our commitment to education and research excellence.

The University of Leeds has committed to an ambitious Climate Plan in response to the climate crisis. The plan, which has an approved investment of £174m, includes the commitment to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The University has developed a plan to achieve this target and is now seeking to build a dedicated team to deliver it.

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to play a leading role in the delivery of the behavioural and enabling changes that will underpin the transition to net zero. You will be responsible for coordinating a team delivering changes to areas of operation including the University supply chain, sustainable laboratories, the University Farm, and ongoing behavioural change initiatives.

Reporting to the Head of Net Zero Delivery, your role will be to provide specialist support for these workstreams and to ensure delivery of the Net Zero Communications and Engagement Strategy to build awareness with student, staff and external audiences.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will have proven experience in a leadership role delivering sustainability programmes within a multi- stakeholder environment. You will also have excellent communication, stakeholder management and networking skills to influence, engage and enable a diverse and vibrant community within the University and beyond.

With leadership at its heart, you will work with a diverse and inclusive team in the Sustainability Service and wider Facilities Directorate to drive forward the delivery of the Net Zero programme. You will also lead and manage team members, providing them with the support, guidance and development required to deliver their programmes and projects, ensuring a collaborative and effective team.
