  • Position Summary:

    Nanook Technology Services (NTS) is seeking new students to join our team! NTS includes the customer-facing UAF IT offices, such as Service Desk, Collaboration and Learning Spaces, and Technology Support Services. As a student assistant, you will work with full-time employees to provide first- class customer support and solve technological problems. Students interested in learning more about technology in a fun and educational environment should consider applying for this position. Student Assistant positions are fully onsite and start at $16 per hour.

    Duties:

    50%Customer Support and Collaboration -Answer phones, assist walk in customers, and troubleshoot student and university owned technology (which may include smart classrooms, computers, digital signs, printers, and conference rooms). -Collaborate with Nanook Technology Services (NTS), UA Office of Information Technology, and other IT services staff to assist with technology support tasks. -Provide a central point of contact for computing/network support, service requests, and system status of mission- critical academic and administrative computer systems. -Promote customer empowerment and self-sufficiency in managing and utilizing their IT resources.Essential

    50%Technical Support and Troubleshooting -Provide technical troubleshooting support under various technically complex and stressful situations, providing solutions within standard procedures and guidelines. -Sound technical interpretation and modification are required to quickly and effectively determine corrective procedures unassisted. -Support and troubleshoot all significant consumer operating systems, applications, and technology hardware. -Provide required assistance to correct various technical problems experienced during non-standard working hours. -May require shifts to be performed during non-standard hours and need to be flexible under changing circumstances. -May work on various projects as each department in Nanook Technology Services requested.Essential

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Required: - Customer-oriented and friendly individual who can deal with occasional stressful situations. - Basic understanding of technology and major desktop and mobile operating systems. - Interested and willing to learn about technology. - Excellent communication and customer service skills. - Be able to communicate over the phone and video professionally and courteously. - Work must be accomplished efficiently, especially in an unsupervised environment. - Must have the ability to communicate with customers using tact and discretion. - Demonstrated problem-solving skills to resolve technology problems, including identifying, prioritizing, and resolving operational issues promptly. - Shift may be required during non-standard business hours, with some flexibility.

    Preferred Experience & Education:

    Preferred: - Customer service, technical aptitude - Prior experience is desired but not required (NTS is willing to invest in training and career development) - Experience in the use of modern operating system software and technology hardware. - Valid Drivers License.

    Required Experience & Education:

    - High school diploma or equivalent. - UA student enrolled in the minimum of 6 credit hours - Experience sufficient to be able to learn skills in information systems technology and customer service.

    Salary Information:

    This is a part time, non-exempt student position. New hires will start at $16/hour.
