  • Position Summary:

    Promote healthy relationships and make a direct impact on creating a safer, more caring campus community by serving as a Peer Prevention Educator in the Nanook Diversity and Action Center!

    Duties:

    100%Peer Prevention Educators work under the direction of the Nanook Diversity and Action Center's Prevention and Wellness Coordinator to provide outreach and prevention education to students in the areas of drug/alcohol misuse and abuse, suicide prevention and mental health awareness, and relationship violence prevention. Peer Prevention Educators will receive extensive training, including nationally-recognized certified peer educator training, QPR suicide prevention training, Bringing in the Bystander and Safe Zone. Peer Prevention Educators will conduct outreach and education through tabling, fliers, hosting programs and events, newsletters and individual consultation with other students. By serving as a Peer Prevention Education, students will gain skills in leadership, marketing, event planning and wellness education.     Typical Experience:

    Health Promotion experience, presentation skills, and mentoring experience are a plus.

    Participation in previous university clubs and organizations preferred.

    Required Education or Training:

    To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must have the following requisites:

    1) They must be enrolled at the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment.

    2) Have a least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA).

    Salary Information:

    This is a student position. The position will pay at $14.96 an hour.

    This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year and students may apply for the position all year.
