Hull York Medical School is seeking to appoint a Mortuary Manager to join the School's Anatomy Facilities. The post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high quality medical and health professional education in our region. The School is committed to transforming the health of people within the region and beyond – through its students, staff and the impact of its teaching and research.

    Role

The Mortuary Manager will manage the Hull York Medical School Anatomy Facilities based at the University of Hull, and the University of York. The role will be primarily based on the Hull campus, with regular working on the York campus. The postholder will provide leadership and line management for the anatomy technical teams in Hull and York. These teams facilitate the body donation programme for Hull York Medical School. The Mortuary Manager will have lead responsibility for oversight and/or delivery of the embalming of donor bodies and other preservation techniques and be the first point of contact for families dealing with a recent bereavement.

The role provides a unique opportunity to join an anatomy team consisting of specialist technicians and academics, and to have lead responsibility for the services the team and facilities can deliver. The role holder will be the first point of contact for families dealing with a recent bereavement and requires the successful candidate to display discretion, empathy, and sensitivity, whilst being able to prioritise and make timely decisions. They should have experience of managing a laboratory or mortuary service and have an open and positive attitude whilst responding to changing priorities under pressure. The role is varied and unique and requires the role holder to be self-motivated and organised, and a dedicated and proven team player with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Applicants are expected to show a commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion, and work in line with the School's values of – everyone counts, pursuing excellence, socially responsible and collaborative. This includes undertaking mandatory equality and diversity training and adhering to the principles outlined in the UK Medical School's Charter on So-Called ‘Conversion Therapy' and the British Medical Association (BMA) racial harassment charter for medical schools.

For informal enquiries: please contact Dr Fran Oldale ([email protected]) or Professor Peter Bazira ([email protected]).

The University strives to be diverse and inclusive – a place where we can ALL be ourselves.

We particularly encourage applications from people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are underrepresented at the University.

We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff. #EqualityatYork
