An exciting opportunity exists for a Manager, Research Development to support efforts to capitalise on opportunities for competitive research grants. This position will be responsible for identifying research funding opportunities, working closely with researchers in the preparation of high-quality written applications for grants and fellowships, and providing strategic advice and training in grantsmanship. The key objective of this position will be to build and maintain effective awareness among the Institute's research collective of the key requirements and knowledge required for competitive funding sources.
Key responsibilities will include:
Identify research funding opportunities to maximise research income, with emphasis on large-scale, complex, programmatic grants, special initiatives, fellowships and industry funding.
Develop knowledge of the existing partnerships, strategic aims, research capabilities and activities within the organisation unit to identify opportunities to exploit its potential for new collaborations.
Hold meetings and forums at which researchers can come together to explore possible partnerships and funding opportunities.
Provide high-level support in the preparation of competitive funding applications, including strategic advice and editorial review of the structure, content, clarity, style and appropriateness of the proposal for the specific funding scheme.
Participate in the development and delivery of grantsmanship training workshops for the Frazer Institute and Faculty.
Provide guidance to researchers on research budget preparation, consistent with the University's Recovery of Indirect Costs from Research Funding and Consultancies policy.
This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position until 31/12/2024.
At HEW level 8, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $105,338.31 - $118,280.70 plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $123,245.82 - $138,388.42 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.
About YouPostgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant management experience (preferably in the tertiary education or research sectors); or extensive relevant experience and expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
Extensive knowledge of relevant industry, philanthropic and Australian competitive granting schemes, with specific experience in writing and editing successful funding applications for at least two of the ARC, NHMRC or MRFF.
A high level of oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise responsibilities and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
Demonstrated project management skills, including focusing on achieving outcomes while ensuring compliance with broad policy and procedural framework, within a large complex, institution.
Knowledge of the higher education research-funding environment is desirable.
Optional/advantageous skills of benefit to this role include:
Experience in Clinician-led or clinically focussed research and funding
Familiarity with international funding opportunities such as DOD grants
Experience in major inter-disciplinary research proposals
Experience in major strategic research collaborations both nationally and internationally
Familiarity with proposals or establishment of Centres of Excellence
Familiarity with major equipment grants and procurement.
