  • About the Role The Manager, Research Development (Discovery) plays a pivotal role within the Science Research Office, leading the successful delivery of major grant schemes for the Faculty of Science across various funders including ARC, NHMRC, and MRFF. Reporting to the Director of Research, they actively contribute to and lead initiatives in alignment with the Faculty of Science Research Strategy 2023 – 2030.

    Additionally, the Manager supervises a small team and collaborates closely with the Associate Dean of Research and colleagues across the University to ensure the delivery of high-quality research and development support to the Faculty's research staff.

    Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the provision of expert advice and guidance to academic staff in order to identify and capitalise on major research funding initiatives, specifically ARC Discovery & NHMRC fellowship funding schemes.
  • Proactively foster and nurture academic research capacity, including identifying and promoting strategic funding opportunities, and efficient planning and management of grant support activities (including ARC Discovery Programs and NHRMC/MRFF initiatives).
  • Analyse and review the Faculty's performance and capacity in the ARC Discovery Program and health-related (e.g. NHMRC) schemes and provide recommendations for research uplift in this area, both at individual, school and faculty levels.
  • Who We Are Looking For You will possess expert planning and organisational skills, crucial for effectively coordinating organisation-wide grant schemes and programs. Your knowledge of research funding, excellent communication abilities and demonstrated experience in fostering relationships with key stakeholders, alongside your track record in leading, coaching, and developing team members, will make you an ideal candidate for this role.

    You will also have:

  • Post-graduate qualifications with subsequent relevant experience and/or equivalent mix of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated effective strategic planning, management and leadership skills within a high-profile academic environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing successful service-oriented administration of complex funding programs and development initiatives, particularly as they relate to ARC, NHMRC and MRFF funding schemes.
