  • About This Opportunity

    The primary purpose of the Manager, Research and Operations role is to provide high-level managerial and strategic support in the areas of research operations, administrative services, and operational management within the School of Economics. This position plays a critical role in supporting the School Manager and the Head of School by leading key operational functions, driving business improvements, and facilitating the efficient delivery of research and operational services across the School. The role involves overseeing a range of administrative and research support activities, managing resources, implementing strategic initiatives, and ensuring alignment with both the School's and University's broader goals.

    Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage the Research and Operations team to deliver high-quality service to staff, stakeholders, and external partners, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.

  • Drive change and continuous improvement within the Research and Operations portfolio in collaboration with the School Manager, supporting strategic initiatives and University-wide projects.

  • Oversee the management of space, physical assets, and IT infrastructure, ensuring compliance with University policies and meeting current and future business needs.

  • Advise staff on University policies and procedures, ensuring consistent implementation and compliance across the Research and Operations team.

  • Support the Director of Research in implementing internal funding schemes, including policy review and allocation of funds per School guidelines.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for research administration, policy, and process support.

  • Coordinate and liaise with the Faculty Marketing team, overseeing communication and marketing activities to promote the School's work and manage internal and external relationships.

  • Oversee the planning and implementation of School events, workshops, and functions.

  • Assist with HR matters, including staff recruitment, induction, and offboarding processes.

  • Perform other duties as directed by the Head of School or supervisor.

  • About You

  • Postgraduate qualification with experience at a management level in providing strategic and operational support to executive leadership teams; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and client-focused delivery at the senior level.

  • Experience in project management including prioritising associated activities in order to achieve milestones and deadlines.

  • High level organisational and time management skills including flexibility and adaptability to handle competing work demands and maintain consistently high standards.

  • Proven strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to conceptualise, establish and implement new policies, procedures and initiatives that will ensure increased operational efficiency.

  • Ability to utilise spreadsheet and reporting tools for the purpose of collecting and monitoring outcomes, and to summarise information in report format.

  • Demonstrated superior stakeholder engagement and relationship management capability, complemented by highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven ability to contribute to the effective and efficient management of infrastructure resources including space allocation.

  • Sound knowledge of the University's policies and procedures and a broad understanding of corporate systems or a capacity to rapidly gain such knowledge.

  • The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre- employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, etc.
