THE ROLE

The Manager of Operation - Dean of Students, will manage and lead operations support across the Dean of Students portfolio, and provide student advocacy and education services.

You will provide oversight and management of the portfolio's budget (including staffing and operational costs, portfolio support with facilities, training coordination, central administrative order and payments, internal event management, student complaint escalation with financial implication and SSAF coordination.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage a team of 6 direct reports and cultivate an environment that promotes respect, accountability, quality service and foster nitiative, innovation, professional development and continuous improvement.

  • Manage and lead portfolio wide operations and communications functions including operations and logistics, communications, finance, human resources, and administration.

  • Provide executive, project and operational support to the Dean of Students and other senior managers across the portfolio.

  • Support the management and implementation of projects that emerge to ensure the successful operationalisation of the Dean of Students function.

  • Implement initiatives and programs aimed at providing students with appropriate, compliant and timely advocacy and support services.

  • Manage the integrity and independence of Student Advocacy and Education services in line with the strategic objectives of the Dean of Students, and University expectations.

  • Manage and lead a team of Student Advocates, Educators and administrative staff for the portfolio including the oversight and allocation of workload and responsibilities, completing annual performance development reviews, performance management, management of leave and trouble shooting as required.

  • Build and manage effective relationships with internal (particularly within the Complaints, Compliance and Standards Team, Shared services team) and external stakeholders.

  • Manage the budget for the Dean of Students portfolio including providing support to the DVCA General Manager on finalising the budget each year, management of casual staff, liaising with DVCA Finance on variances, forecasting and any other issues as they arise.

  • Manage SSAF process including studemt consultation, distribution and statutory reporting.

  • Lead operational review & business process improvements on an ongoing basis to ensure staff are supported across the Dean of Students portfolio.

    The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) is the Chief Academic Officer of the University and is the member of the University Executive with overall responsibility for the planning, quality and delivery of education provided to Macquarie's undergraduate and graduate students.

    This position sits within the Dean of Students (part of the Office of Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic) which has overall responsibility for student support services and student experience including Student Engagement, Equity, Diversity and Belonging, Complaints and Misconduct and Student Wellbeing Services.

    Selection Criteria

  • Degree or extensive equivalent experience.

  • Experience providing leadership and direction in the operationalisation of strategy and implementation of change programs and projects.

  • Experience leading, managing and developing a diverse, high performing and service-oriented team.

  • Knowledge of student advocacy, student group governance and education programs that support the University's student policies and procedures.

  • Experience building and sustaining effective stakeholder partnerships to achieve operational excellence.

  • Operational and financial acumen including managing budgets, continuous process improvement, policy development and maintenance and analysing and reporting on data and complex business processes.
