  • About This Opportunity

    The Manager, Build and Delivery plays a key role in deploying infrastructure solutions that allow the best use of cloud and on-premise technologies to deliver services to the University, working closely with the application and infrastructure stakeholders. The Manager leads the team responsible for delivering cloud and on-premise platforms, core infrastructure platforms and high speed network solutions.

    Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the implementation and delivery of appropriate infrastructure solutions utilising the most appropriate combination of cloud and on- premise supporting technologies.

  • Manage build and delivery phases of large IT projects, overseeing network, compute, and storage infrastructure.

  • Collaborate closely with the Associate Director, Infrastructure, developing strategic plans and working with stakeholders to ensure effective solution implementation.

  • Effectively lead, mentor, and manage the team, ensuring high customer service standards, effective service delivery against key performance indicators, and adherence to methodologies.

  • Lead a high-performing service delivery team, following service management practices like Release and Change Management.

  • Undertake continuous improvement activities with a focus on automation for efficient service delivery.

  • Act as a category manager for technology-related purchasing, handling vendor management, procurement category analysis, and leading negotiations. Prepare budgets and ensure financial targets are met.

  • Carry out other duties within the scope of the classification and within the limits of their skill, competence, and training.

  • The Manager leads the team responsible for delivering cloud and on-premise platforms, and high speed network solutions.

    About You

    Essential

  • Qualifications and training equivalent to a postgraduate degree in IT or related field or significant progress towards such qualifications, and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Extensive experience in managing the provision and delivery of IT infrastructure in a complex environment, including a very strong technical understanding of cloud and on-premise technologies and the benefits and risks of each, and a demonstrated ability to deliver infrastructure-as-a- solution for the business, delivering consistency across on-premise and public cloud solutions.

  • Strong knowledge of the delivery and establishment of networking and communications infrastructure, and a thorough understanding of technical requirements and provisioning issues in these areas.

  • Strong understanding of automated deployment technologies, software- defined infrastructure, availability and security technologies.

  • Demonstrable strong knowledge of technologies and frameworks such as configuration management, automated service delivery, AWS/Azure, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).

  • Extensive experience and proven expertise in managing, leading and motivating a team of staff in a changing environment.

  • Extensive experience and proven expertise in managing projects and budgets to deliver quality IT outcomes for clients in a timely and cost effective manner. Experience in providing estimates and negotiating contracts.

  • Proven strategic thinking, analytical and problem solving skills including the ability to conceptualise, establish and implement new initiatives and innovative solutions within a specified framework.

  • Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication and negotiation skills and proven capacity to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a current working knowledge of relevant emerging technologies, research, methodologies and best practices and develop and deliver services that utilise best practice and appropriate technology to meet the University's business requirements.
