  • About This Opportunity

    We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Manager, Infrastructure Operations Centre, to lead The Infrastructure Operations team at The University of Queensland. Reporting to the Associate Director, Infrastructure, this role involves leading a team of Infrastructure and Network Engineers to operate, manage and maintain core underpinning IT Infrastructure effectively and efficiently. A key focus for this role is the continual improvement and enhancement of procedures to achieve this outcome whilst strengthening and growing a culture of excellence, service and teamwork.

    Responsibilities

  • Manage and operate appropriate infrastructure solutions, networking infrastructure and data centre management utilising the most appropriate combination of supporting technologies.

  • Work closely with stakeholders and the Associate Director, Infrastructure and Security to develop strategic plans that deliver infrastructure solutions which support the University's business needs and ensure the infrastructure solutions works effectively.

  • Category manager for technology related purchasing, undertaking vendor management, procurement category analysis and planning, and leading negotiations for purchases via Invitation for Offer activities and Preferred Supplier Agreements.

  • Prepare budgets and ensure financial targets are met.

  • Effectively lead, mentor and manage the Infrastructure Operations team, ensuring high standards of customer service, effective delivery of services against agreed key performance indicators, consistent and appropriate use of methodologies and toolsets, and that all aspects of human resource management are conducted effectively and in accordance with University policies and procedures.

  • Carry out other duties within the scope of the classification and within the limits of their skill, competence, and training.

  • About You

    Essential

  • Qualifications and training equivalent to a postgraduate degree in IT or related field or significant progress towards such qualifications, and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Extensive experience in managing the provision and operation of I.T. infrastructure and networks in a complex environment, including a very strong technical understanding of cloud and on-premise technologies and the benefits and risks of each, and a demonstrated ability to deliver infrastructure-as-a-solution for the business, delivering consistency across on-premise and public cloud solutions.

  • Strong understanding of automated deployment technologies, software- defined infrastructure, availability, and security technologies.

  • Demonstrable strong knowledge of technologies and frameworks such as Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), configuration management, automated service delivery, communications infrastructure, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).

  • Extensive experience and proven expertise in managing, leading, and motivating a team of staff in a changing environment.

  • Proven strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to conceptualise, establish and implement new initiatives and innovative solutions within a specified framework.
