Position Title: Maintenance Technician 1 - Grounds
Department: Facilities Operations – West Campus
Starting Rate:Band 1 - $16.15 - $20.19

Position Summary:
The Trades Maintenance Technician, Grounds, is responsible for performing a
variety of duties related to semi- skilled, routine grounds keeping. Grounds
Technicians keep the appearance of our campuses, structures and facilities
clean and beautiful.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform minor irrigation actives; and repair up to two inch water lines
including: unplugging or replacing sprinklers heads, adjusts controller
program for turf condition waters trees and shrubs, and flowers

Use various small equipment
Control weeds by manually removing or through the use of approved
pesticides
Trim, prune and shear trees, shrubs and ground covers; rake and remove
debris
Ensure the reseeding and mowing of grounds and sports turf
Remove litter and garbage from parking lots, landscape areas and walks
Perform basic maintenance and repair small and heavy equipment
Assist with set ups and take down for special events
Assist with inventory of supplies and equipment and obtaining items as
directed
Perform data entry input using the computerized maintenance management
system
Prepare athletic fields for competition by performing turf and infield
maintenance
Inspect equipment for preventative maintenance to ensure safety
May perform manual-labor duties, such as moving furniture Operate College
motor vehicles and heavy equipment
Read schematic drawings and/or construction drawings
Use safe work practices, to include proper lifting and carrying methods
Follow applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Provide exceptional customer service
Communicate clearly both orally and in writing sufficient to receive and
convey instructions to perform the duties of the job
Demonstrate interpersonal skills with coworkers, supervisors, the College
community, and the general public
Operate as part of a team, to include cross-training with other operations
and maintenance staff
Job Requirements:
High school diploma or GED and
One year of grounds keeping experience and
Possession of a valid Arizona Driver's License and demonstration of an
acceptable driving record and
Possession of or the ability to obtain within 6 months an Applicators
License with the Arizona Department of Agriculture, Pest Management
Division and
Successful candidate must meet minimum medical testing requirements as
determined in a physical examination that includes a lift test
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and
abilities:
Basic general maintenance techniques, including: plumbing, electrical, and
grounds
Basic repair and preventative maintenance
Use of equipment and tools typical in assigned area, including climbing
ladders
Operation of wheeled vehicles
Use and operation of a variety of hand and power tools
Applicable driving laws and regulations
Applicable computer programs and equipment
Record keeping principles
Safe work practices and procedures, to include reading Material Safety
Data Sheets Exceptional customer service principles
Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with
coworkers, supervisors, and the general public sufficient to exchange or
convey information and to receive work direction
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require, kneeling, standing, walking,
pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling, talking hearing, seeing and
repetitive motions

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of

Incumbents may be subject to moving mechanical parts, electrified
equipment, vibrations, fumes, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, extreme
temperatures, low lighting, workspace restrictions, loud or prolonged
noises, and travel
Work is performed outdoors in all types of Exposure to all elements of the
weather. Temperature may reach as high as 110 degrees during the summers.
