M-23100 RESEARCHER IN HIGH PERFORMANCE THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITE PROCESS
DEVELOPMENT
Temporary contract 24 months Hautcharage
Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a leading
Research and Technology Organization (RTO) dedicated to advancing the
frontiers of science and technology in the domains of materials, environmental
sciences, and information technology. Committed to the seamless integration of
cutting-edge research and innovation, LIST translates scientific insights into
transformative technologies, intelligent data solutions, and innovative tools.
You will join the Structural Composite Unit and the Design and Manufacturing
of Advanced Composite (DMAC) research group of Materials Research and
Technology (MRT) department. The DMAC research group combines expertise in
computational performance evaluation, design and performance optimization, and
innovative manufacturing process development.

How will you contribute?
Join our dynamic team with this exciting job opportunity focused on the
development of the process modelling of an innovative approach for producing
thick wound structure made of (recyclable) reactive thermoplastic resin
targeting sustainable H2 tank storage applications.
The project INSHO aims at increasing the use of thermoplastic composite,
recyclable and more appropriate for harsh environment and higher production
rate, by keeping the honeycomb-based sandwich composite design. To that
purpose, LIST and Euro-Composites will develop a manufacturing process based
on ATP enabling to produce in one step, call in-situ consolidation, the
sandwich composite panel.
The project will start at TRL3 and will target a TRL5 at the end f the
project, by the production of a full sandwich composite fuselage panel
INSHO Project, taking advantage of the mutual expertise of Euro-Composites and
LIST, will provide and demonstrate a technological solution, based on
qualified materials, though an innovation manufacturing approach resolving the
technological and scientifically issue of TPC/Honeycomb manufacturing.
This position provides a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of
transformative advancements in structural composite manufacturing technology.
Your activities will include:
Overseeing the development of in-situ consolidation of TPC (Carbon
reinforced unidirectional tape made of LM-PAEK, PEEK or PEKK polymer)
Contributing to the Design of Experiment and advanced characterization
data analysis of in-situ consolidated laminate and honeycomb sandwich
panel.
Operate the AFP equipment with the support the design team and the R&D
engineers and technicians
Strong interaction with modelling experts to provide suitable experimental
input for consolidation modelling, including void dynamics.
Contribute to the scientific understanding of underlying physical
phenomenon responsible for TPC deconsolidation and reconsolidation, mainly
related to in-process moisture control.
Contribute to the integration and optimisation of the surface preparation
enabling the in-situ adhesion with the honeycomb core.
