Lectureship in Education, School of Education

Permanent Wholetime Post

UCC wishes to appoint an experienced academic to the role of Lecturer in Education with experience in the teaching of Home Economics. Reporting to the Head of School, the role will primarily involve contributing to the delivery of modules across the UCC Professional Master of Education (PME) programme, though, the appointees will also be expected to contribute more widely to and across other School of Education programmes. The role will involve lecturing in all areas of Education (e.g., pedagogy, professional, and foundation areas), school placement tutoring, supporting postgraduate studies, undertaking research, and building and sustaining community links in the education field, while contributing to UCC academic life. Successful candidates will ideally hold a doctorate in Education (or evidence of adequate advance towards this qualification) or a minimum of a Master of Education (M.Ed.) qualification or equivalent in a relevant cognate area (in addition to any initial teacher education qualification gained at Master's level), as well as a specialist teaching qualification recognised by the Teaching Council of Ireland to teach Home Economics in schools. The successful candidate will demonstrate a broad understanding of the Irish education sector and provide evidence of at least 3 years teaching experience in the Irish school system, with specific expertise and experience in the teaching of Home Economics, in addition to any of the other school subject areas supported by the School of Education, UCC.

Evidence of research experience, appropriate to the grade of the posts, in the discipline of education generally and contribution to the broader field of education would also be requisite for appointment to the posts. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and innovative School of Education immersed in the education of teachers at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supported by a vibrant research culture.

Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.

For an information package including full details of the post, selection criteria and application process see https: // ore.ucc.ie/. The University, at its discretion, may undertake to make an additional appointment(s) from this competition following the conclusion of the process.

Informal enquiries can be made in confidence to Prof Nicola Ingram, Head of School, by Email: [email protected].
