  • About the Role

    The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer is expected to contribute to teaching and research efforts of the School, specifically in Journalism, teaching in the Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) and the Graduate Diploma in Journalism and will also advance scholarship, research and industry partnerships in the field.

    The focus of the position will be for an academic with a strong background in multimedia work in a newsroom environment. Experience in all forms of online and audio-visual journalism, including aligned areas such as design and data visualisation will be important.

    The appointee will be expected to make an active contribution to journalism research and add to the research culture of the discipline. Expertise on the adaptation of journalism to new and emerging platforms will be particularly valued. An interest in researching and working with industry on practical work integrated learning and internship projects will be an advantage.

    About You

    To be successful for level B appointment, you will have (but not limited to):

  • An in-depth knowledge of journalism and ability to bridge between industry and scholarly research in the field.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver courses at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, and to produce high quality curriculum materials.
  • Ability to undertake course coordination roles.
  • Capacity to work effectively and negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning.

    In addition to the above, to be successful for level C appointment you will have (but not limited to):

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate large courses and prepare and delivery programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including high quality curriculum and program materials and ability to implement innovative approaches to student-centred learning and quality improvement.
  • Ability to manage a large program or a number of small programs.
  • Extensive experience in research leadership with the ability to build and develop collaborative research teams, mentor academic staff to deliver high quality outcomes, attract and secure external research funding to sustain research effort and manage funded research projects including complex budgets and reporting requirements.
